Situated in rural Berkshire, Heatherwold Stud provides the ideal location for a top class Thoroughbred nursery.
Recent stars to have been bred or prepared at Heatherwold include Red Cadeaux, who amassed £5 million of prize money in a globetrotting career, Breeders Cup winner Wrote, recent Group winner Most Beautiful and multiple Listed winner Windhoek.
Heatherwold’s history of breeding Group winners also includes Saumarez, winner of the 1990 Group 1 Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe.
We specialize in foaling down and sales preparation.
- Mares taken for foaling through to weaning if required
- Mares taken for walk outs through to 42 day scans
- All ages for sales preparation, specialising in yearlings
- Permanent boarders always welcome, to include broodmares or youngstock
- Summer turn out
- Recuperating and convalescing care
Mares are welcome as permanent boarders, or throughout the season we offer a service to take in mares to foal and barren mares to walk out and then stay with us until scanned in foal.
We have a highly experienced team, CCTV and a night watchman who sits up every night throughout the season.
We are set up to provide a first class sales preparation service with a horse walker, turnout pens, lunge pen and acres of off road tracks for walking in hand.
We consign to all of the major UK sales companies and also abroad if required.
Our sales preparation usually lasts about eight weeks, depending on the individual.
Boarding yearlings have the advantage of a nutritionist visiting every month throughout the year to assess their progress and to make any individual adjustments to their feeding or regime, as agreed with the manager. To this end each yearling is treated as an individual and hopefully will arrive at the sales in the best possible condition.
Bloodstock agent Jeremy Brummitt brings a wealth of experience to the advice and breeding plans we offer to our owners.
Jeremy’s expertise extends across all aspects of the thoroughbred industry. He has an outstanding track record in buying successful horses, both for investment and racing purposes, including purchase of Classic winner Masked Marvel.
REST AND RECUPERATION
We offer summer turnout to those requiring either a week or two away from training or a full summer of rest. With small barns for turn out and nursery paddocks, we are set up to cater for injured and recuperating horses, either on box rest, or for those requiring limited exercise.
